課程概述

Modeling and simulation of dynamic systems in time and frequency domain. Feedback control analysis and design methods including root-locus, frequency response, and pole placement.  

課程目標
The main objective of this course is to learn the following basic concepts and techniques for the analysis and design of modern control systems.

Mathematical modeling of dynamic systems (Automation)
- Laplace transform
- State-space representation
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Electromechanical systems
- Fluid systems
- Thermal systems

Analysis of dynamic systems and feedback control system design (Control)
- Transient and Steady-State Response Analysis
- Control Systems Analysis and Design by the Root-Locus Method
- Control Systems Analysis and Design by the Frequency-Response Method
- PID Controllers and Modified PID Controllers
- Control Systems Analysis in State Space
- Control Systems Design in State Space
 
課程要求
1. Exams:
All exams are closed book and notes unless otherwise specified. For each exam, students are allowed to bring in one A4 piece of paper with notes written on single sides in their own handwriting (i.e., no photo copies, etc.). These sheets are cumulative. For the mid-term, one sheet is allowed. For the final exam, you may bring in the original sheets from mid-term and a new sheet.

2. Homework:
There are six homework sets. Homework are due at the start of class on the date specified. Late penalties will be assessed in accordance with the late homework policy below.

3. CAD assignment:
There is a computer-aided-design assignment for modeling and controller design of a mechanical system. The CAD assignment includes three parts: (1) Model the system, (2) Analyze the feedback system, (3) Design the controller and simulate the system performance. Matlab and SISOTOOL are needed for (3).
